TOKYO — Efforts to stabilize the hobbled nuclear power plant in Fukushima hit a snag on Monday when engineers found that crucial machinery at one reactor requires repair, a process that will take two to three days, government officials said.

Hundreds of employees from Tokyo Electric Power Company, which owns the disabled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, worked through the weekend to connect a mile-long high-voltage transmission line to Reactor No. 2 in hopes to restarting a cooling system that would help bring down the temperature in the facility’s reactor and spent fuel pool.

After connecting the transmission line on Sunday, engineers found on Monday that they still did not have enough power to fully run the systems that control the temperature and pressure in the building that houses the reactor, officials from the nuclear safety agency said.

Engineers were also trying to repair the ventilation system in the control room that is used to monitor conditions in the No. 1 and No. 2 units. When that work is completed, possibly on Monday, it will allow the power company, also known as Tepco, to begin cleansing the air in the control room so that workers can eventually re-enter and begin using equipment inside to monitor conditions in the two reactor units.

Workers were also trying to connect a separate power cable to unit No. 4 by late afternoon in Japan on Monday.

A local branch of the Tokyo Electric Power Company says grey smoke was seen rising from the troubled No.3 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture.

The smoke was apparently coming from the southeast edge of the roof of the reactor structure at 3:55 PM on Monday.

The office informed local firefighters about this. The amount of smoke seems to be decreasing.

The reactor operator is evacuating its workers from the area.

The storage pool for spent nuclear fuel is located in the southeast area of the reactor structure.

Power cable connected to reactor / Link may allow control room use

In an effort to restore power at the crippled No. 2 reactor of Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. has successfully connected a power cable with the reactor, raising hope the utility will be able to activate the central control room.

TEPCO was working Sunday to electrify the central control room using the power supplied to the No. 2 reactor.

Work to restore electricity at the Fukushima nuclear power plant is under way in three separate reactor groups--Nos. 1 and 2; Nos. 3 and 4; and Nos. 5 and 6. The highest priority was placed on the No. 2 reactor, whose reactor containment vessel is feared to have been damaged in the aftermath of the magnitude-9.0 quake that hit the Tohoku region on March 11.

Among the Nos. 1 to 4 reactors, the No. 2 reactor reportedly suffered the least quake and tsunami damage to its pumps and electrical equipment, making TEPCO officials hopeful that the equipment will start functioning once electricity is supplied.

TEPCO set up a temporary power switchboard on a vehicle near the No. 1 reactor Friday, and connected the devices with a cable to the No. 2 reactor's power switchboard-cum-transformer at the turbine building.

Water-spraying continues

Meanwhile, Self-Defense Forces personnel and a special squad of the Tokyo Fire Department continued spraying water on troubled reactors in an effort to avert further disaster.

On Sunday morning, SDF personnel sprayed water on the No. 4 reactor for the first time, following a similar operation on the No. 3 reactor that lasted until early Sunday.

The SDF mission started at about 8:20 a.m. and ended 9:40 a.m., having sprayed about 82 tons of water using 10 SDF fire trucks and one fire truck TEPCO borrowed from U.S. forces, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said.

It is feared rising water temperature in the temporary storage pool at the No. 4 reactor will lower the water level in the pool and expose fuel rods, resulting in the leakage of radioactive material into the air.

The radiation level in the plant vicinity declined after the Tokyo Fire Department sprayed water on the No. 3 reactor on Saturday and Sunday.

Radiation levels at a location about 500 meters from the No. 1 reactor went down from 3,443 microsieverts per hour as of 2 p.m. Saturday to 2,758 microsieverts as of 3:40 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.

The water-spraying operation on the No. 4 reactor by the Tokyo Fire Department was to resume Sunday night.

The SDF and firefighters from across the nation, including the Osaka Municipal Fire Department, are expected to continue their water-spraying mission.

At the No. 3 reactor, on which Tokyo firefighters sprayed water from 2:05 p.m. Saturday until 3:40 a.m. Sunday, pressure within the reactor containment vessel started rising again, forcing TEPCO officials to consider releasing steam in the vessel to lower the pressure, TEPCO said.

Pressure in the containment vessel went up from about 2.8 atmospheres at 1:10 a.m. to 3.4 atmospheres at 4:30 a.m.

However, the pressure in the containment vessel stabilized as of noon. TEPCO officials continued to closely monitor changes in pressure inside the vessel for the time being.

At the Nos. 5 and 6 reactors, TEPCO successfully activated heat exchangers in temporary storage pools for spent nuclear fuel rods using emergency diesel power generators, including one that was repaired Saturday, making it possible to significantly lower water temperature in the storage pools.

Water temperatures in storage pools in the Nos. 5 and 6 reactors were 37.1 C and 41.0 C, respectively, as of 7 a.m., and were within or near the target temperature range of 40 C or below, TEPCO officials said.

TEPCO said the number of its workers whose radiation exposure exceeded 100 sieverts increased to seven from six as of 5 a.m. Sunday. The government had raised the upper limit of the radiation exposure for workers at the Fukushima plant from the ordinary 100 sieverts to 250 sieverts as an exceptional measure.

Meanwhile, TEPCO was considering using a German-made high-pressure pump capable of spraying water on a distant target with a boom longer than 50 meters, according to TEPCO sources. The pump is used to pour concrete at construction sites.

A TEPCO inspection found that to supply electricity to the No. 2 reactor's central control room, some instruments, such as the backup water system motor and a power-supply unit, needed to be repaired or replaced.

It is expected to take several days to restore the reactor's cooling system, officials said.

The development came a day after TEPCO confirmed electricity had reached the switchboard-cum-transformer at the reactor's turbine building.

TEPCO workers also continued efforts to send electricity from the No. 2 reactor to the No. 1 reactor, and lay cables to the Nos. 3 and 4 reactors. However, work to lay cables to the Nos. 3 and 4 reactors was reportedly running into trouble because of debris from previous explosions and high radiation levels.

Electricity also reached the switchboard of the No. 5 reactor at about 11:30 a.m., and switched the reactor power source from an emergency generator to an outside power source about 90 minutes later, making it technically possible to send electricity to the No. 6 reactor, TEPCO officials said.

Electricity at the Nos. 5 and 6 reactors had been supplied by emergency diesel-powered generators.

At the Nos. 5 and 6 reactors, temperatures reportedly have stabilized at 100 C or lower. Water temperatures in the two reactors' nuclear fuel storage pools also declined to normal levels of 39.5 C and 32 C, respectively, as of 5 a.m. Monday, TEPCO said.

Experts warned the rain might temporarily raise radiation levels in the area because radioactive material that had floated in the air might fall to the ground.

3,700 tons of water sprayed

Meanwhile, a special squad of the Tokyo Fire Department and other firefighters blasted about 1,130 tons of water into the No. 3 reactor's nuclear fuel storage pool for about 6-1/2 hours until 4 a.m. Monday. It was the Tokyo firefighters' third spraying operation at the plant.

The combined amount of water blasted on the No. 3 reactor, including that sprayed by the SDF, reached 3,700 tons by Monday morning, officials said.

The SDF sprayed water on the fuel storage pool of the No. 4 reactor for about two hours starting at about 6:40 a.m. Monday.

The water-spraying operations to date likely have raised water levels in the nuclear fuel storage pools and decreased water temperatures, gradually lowering radiation levels from damaged nuclear fuel rods.

If workers are able to maintain the fuel storage pool water levels, the next focus would be to try to restore electricity from outside to the Nos. 1 to 3 reactors, so as to constantly cool the reactors using their own cooling systems.

Currently, workers are injecting pumped seawater into the reactor pressure vessels in each reactor core.

Чтобы разглядеть хоть какие-то подробности, я попробовал разложить видеоролик, запечатлевший взрыв на третьем блоке. Квадратики квантизации мешают, но кое-что можно разглядеть.
34-й кадр: в области стыка крыши и боковой стены вырывается жёлто-оранжевое пламя, стеновые панели верхнего ряда передней стены (т.е. находящейся напротив стены, обращённой к морю) взрывная волна разворачивает в горизонтальное положение и смещает вверх, либо это часть крыши вверх начинает улетать, стеновые панели боковой стены взрыв начинает отрывать и смещать вниз;
35-й кадр и далее: развитие взрыва;
198-й кадр: столб пыли достигает 250 метров (судя по 120-м вытяжным башням);
247-й кадр: из пылевого столба слева что-то падает, особенно отчётливо это заметно кадра с 290-го. Два светлых и один тёмный объект, вероятно, какие-то железобетонные конструкции, достаточно крупные, при попытке увеличения видно, что и весьма объёмные. Не похоже, что это части кровли/крыши, так как при взрыве на первом блоке не было ничего похожего по крупности обломков. Возможно, верхние части блоков 1 и 3 имеют различное строение, но взрыв на 4-м блоке выбил часть стеновых панелей и разрушил кровлю, почти не тронув обрешётку кровли.
Пламя ионами натрия окрашено, а откуда под крышей морская соль, в тот момент времени морскую воду подавали в реактор, и ещё вроде бы под гермооболочку (containment), реактор снаружи охлаждали. Давление из реактора сбрасывали в контейнмент, гремучая смесь взорвалась и контейнмент сработал как мортира, метнув крышку (Concrete Shield Plug) вверх. Бризантность у топливно-воздушных смесей никакая (в сравнении с бризантными ВВ), реактор не пострадает, а фугасность хорошая, да и железобетон плохо на растяжение работает. Но где в таком случае железобетонная крышка и стальной колпак (Drywell Head)? Их нигде не видно, да и японцы говорят, что давление в контейнменте присутствует, а значит, контейнмент цел, следовательно, взрыва в нём не было. Но и для взрыва ТОЛЬКО ПОД КРЫШЕЙ, столб пыли великоват, на мой взгляд, да и сверху что-то же падало. Судя по схеме, в самом здании блока (Reactor Building) присутствуют отсеки, может в каком-то из них скопился гремучий газ, по трещинам из реакторного зала попал, например, землетрясение было, могли трещины в конструкции блока образоваться. Бабахнуло одновременно, под крышей и в отсеке (например, под Equipment pool), часть железобетонных конструкций улетела в небо. ОЯТ ведь в другом бассейне хранится? Кстати, похоже, что из пылевого столба справа тоже что-то падает. Непонятно только, почему эти достаточно крупные обломки нигде невидны, разрушились при падении? скачал файл. обычный архив rar. в нем папка с набором png файлов png = картинка. на компе стоит авира. вирусов не обнаружено не мной не авирой (сам тоже с ними немало дело имел по работе и заметилбы) никакого винлока и прочих ужасов не обнаруженно. проверть свой компъютер возможно вас куда-то не туда редиректит вместо ссылке.
